I know there are almost a hundred reviews already, but I hope you will give me just a minute. By the way, I even uploaded images to help you see more about this product. I testes this head-to-head for an hour straight against a Sinmax 300 mbs Etekcity High Power 802.11 B/N/G 300M USB Wireless 1000mw Wifi Network Adapter with Dual Antenna. Of course the Sinmax gave me 5 bars of reception from my 4620LE Jetpack cellular modem - - 30 feet away and this gave me 3, but this is more designed for laptops and portability. The Sinmax made by Elekticity is portable, but it has those 6 bunny ears. So, what is the verdict? this old up. It gets better reception than the built-in PCI-express wireless card that has a 5 antenna I had to screw into the card that came standard with my i-7 Windows 8 ASUS. So if that card is new and this tiny USB antenna can whomp it, it is not a bad portable antenna.
I remember my old T-Mobile USB antenna dongle came with m micro card slot and you would use it as a flash drive. This does not-just so you know. It has one function, and it does it reasonably well. I had bad luck with Windows 8, but it did work once I went into Device Manager Start: search Device Manager and click that, look for Network Adapters, and see the images I uploaded. On a separate machine I tried it the 3200 on Windows 7 and Windows found it right away-the mini-CD is useless.
The speed is good, and the signal strength is better than adequate, but IMHO, if you need a strong signal and you dont mind bunny ears, get the Sinmax Elekticity. But if you need a LAPTOP or tablet antenna or antenna booster if yours is weak this is a great little product. Read more

After buying a dual-band router and learning that 5Ghz is really only useful within a small range and line-of-sight, I decided to switch the family PC to wireless N over 5Ghz, since it resides across the room from said router. One less device on 2.4Ghz.
I probably over-analyze/research things I buy on Amazon, but I like to avoid disappointment. So far this USB adapter is great. Im getting the same speed that I get via wire about 42 Mbps down, which makes me very happy. I also bought the UC100 cradle for 13 so that I could set the adapter in an ideal spot. Windows did not have a built-in driver, but the included mini-CD had the driver, which I installed along with the TP-LINK utility. The software is basic, but works well and is not intrusive after everything is up and running. It will also support other adapters attached to your computer if you have any.
Note that this device can also be used in SoftAP mode as a wireless access point. So if you only have a modem with a wired connection to your PC, this device can serve as a wireless router by itself. I have not tried this function, but I could see how it might be useful in some situations. The manual is currently available here:

The adapter works well, but Id like first to address an issue with the advertising - the marketing droids keep pushing the 600Mbit/sec speed capability of this adapter, but then forget to mention in equally bold letters that this is an USB 2.0 device, and the USB 2.0 port speed itself is limited to 480Mbit/sec best case. If this were an USB3 device I would buy into the hype of up to 600Mbit/sec ; but it is not. This is not the only product TP-Link makes which suffers from this mismatch - they also have a Powerline AV500 500MBit/sec adapter which only has a 100Mbit ethernet port for connectivity. Again they advertise in very bold letters the 500Mbit connectivity between devices, but mention the actual 100mbit speed limit imposed by the ethernet port in very small print only.
This USB adapter is capable of up to 433Mbit/sec on the 5GHz band and 150Mbit/sec on the 2.4Ghz band. In practice, with an AC router Netgear R7000 sitting in the same room, I have found that I can get a solid 150Mbit/sec on the 5GHz band and a stable 108Mbit/sec on the 2.4GHz band - the adapter tries to jump up to higher speeds but for transferring a large video file it will eventually settle steady-state at those values. Not a bad performance by any means, I could transfer a 4GB file at about 15.1MB/sec - I am very happy with the results. This little device is breathing new life into an older laptop which was capable of only 802.11g 54Mbit/sec speeds.
One weird issue that I noticed is when using this adapter against a regular dual band 802.11n router TP-Link N900 - again the connection speeds look capped at 150Mbit/sec for each 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, but in practice the 5GHz band works a lot faster than the 2.4GHz band. In this case, I am getting 6.4MB/sec transfer speeds over the 5GHz band and 900K/sec over the 2.4GHz band while the adapter was connected to the same router at the same 150Mbit/sec according to the included monitoring utility.

November 20, about 3 weeks after being put into service, and this adapter started acting up. Set up on a 5GHz network, suddenly it couldnt find the network. I confirmed that the 5GHz network was in fact operational using an Android phone but the TP Link adapter just wouldnt see it despite re-scanning. So I connected to the 2.4GHz network instead slower speed, but better than nothing. That was yesterday. Today-no connection at all. The device simply wouldnt work and the TP-LINK utility wasnt finding an attached device. I disconnected it and found it VERY hot to the touch. Almost too hot to hold onto. After letting it cool down for a few minutes, I plugged it back in to see what would happen. No response, and PC doesnt even recognize a USB device attachment. This occurred while the PC was on, but no one was actively using the connection other than sending a print job via Google Cloud print. No streaming or anything, so it wasnt even operating at full load when it died.
Im going to try another one to see if it was an anomaly-replacement already on order from Amazon. I want to like this little device. Im glad I kept the packaging. Well see if the replacement lasts more than three

Like many Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit users, this dual-band adapter failed to see the 5 GHz band of my router out of the box. Great 2.4 GHz speeds 195 Mbps, but disappointing not to have get the expected 5 GHz speedball. The problem is with the PlugNPlay-installed driver from Microsoft dated 5/15/2013, v.5.1.2.0. The adapter can see and connect to the 2.4 GHz band just fine. After a friendly but ultimately unhelpful interaction with TP-Link support, I checked the adapters chipset Ralink RT3573 and tracked down a later driver dated 6/27/2014, v.5.1.17.0 from MediaTek /en/downloads/. The download installs the driver into Windows. Then you access the Update button for the TL-WDN4200, pick Browse my computer for driver software, Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, then pick the MediaTek driver. Afterwards, the 5 GHz band should show up. I now joyfully get 405-450 Mbps, as advertised. I dropped my rating one star for the trouble this product caused me.

I know there are almost a hundred reviews already, but I hope you will give me just a minute. By the way, I even uploaded images to help you see more about this product. I testes this head-to-head for an hour straight against a Sinmax 300 mbs Etekcity High Power 802.11 B/N/G 300M USB Wireless 1000mw Wifi Network Adapter with Dual Antenna. Of course the Sinmax gave me 5 bars of reception from my 4620LE Jetpack cellular modem - - 30 feet away and this gave me 3, but this is more designed for laptops and portability. The Sinmax made by Elekticity is portable, but it has those 6 bunny ears. So, what is the verdict? this old up. It gets better reception than the built-in PCI-express wireless card that has a 5 antenna I had to screw into the card that came standard with my i-7 Windows 8 ASUS. So if that card is new and this tiny USB antenna can whomp it, it is not a bad portable antenna.
I remember my old T-Mobile USB antenna dongle came with m micro card slot and you would use it as a flash drive. This does not-just so you know. It has one function, and it does it reasonably well. I had bad luck with Windows 8, but it did work once I went into Device Manager Start: search Device Manager and click that, look for Network Adapters, and see the images I uploaded. On a separate machine I tried it the 3200 on Windows 7 and Windows found it right away-the mini-CD is useless.
The speed is good, and the signal strength is better than adequate, but IMHO, if you need a strong signal and you dont mind bunny ears, get the Sinmax Elekticity. But if you need a LAPTOP or tablet antenna or antenna booster if yours is weak this is a great little product. It looks cool, it is small, and pops right into a USB, USB 2, or USB 3 port. Just to be fair I used a USB 3 port for my tests to max out the data transfer speeds.
I am keeping this thing. It wont be obsolete any time soon and it is small enough, and cheap enough that it can fit anywhere and I am not concerned about losing it. This is the perfect device for travelling. Anyway, thanks for reading-hope this helped.

After buying a dual-band router and learning that 5Ghz is really only useful within a small range and line-of-sight, I decided to switch the family PC to wireless N over 5Ghz, since it resides across the room from said router. One less device on 2.4Ghz.
I probably over-analyze/research things I buy on Amazon, but I like to avoid disappointment. So far this USB adapter is great. Im getting the same speed that I get via wire about 42 Mbps down, which makes me very happy. I also bought the UC100 cradle for 13 so that I could set the adapter in an ideal spot. Windows did not have a built-in driver, but the included mini-CD had the driver, which I installed along with the TP-LINK utility. The software is basic, but works well and is not intrusive after everything is up and running. It will also support other adapters attached to your computer if you have any.

The adapter works well, but Id like first to address an issue with the advertising - the marketing droids keep pushing the 600Mbit/sec speed capability of this adapter, but then forget to mention in equally bold letters that this is an USB 2.0 device, and the USB 2.0 port speed itself is limited to 480Mbit/sec best case. If this were an USB3 device I would buy into the hype of up to 600Mbit/sec ; but it is not. This is not the only product TP-Link makes which suffers from this mismatch - they also have a Powerline AV500 500MBit/sec adapter which only has a 100Mbit ethernet port for connectivity. Again they advertise in very bold letters the 500Mbit connectivity between devices, but mention the actual 100mbit speed limit imposed by the ethernet port in very small print only.
This USB adapter is capable of up to 433Mbit/sec on the 5GHz band and 150Mbit/sec on the 2.4Ghz band. In practice, with an AC router Netgear R7000 sitting in the same room, I have found that I can get a solid 150Mbit/sec on the 5GHz band and a stable 108Mbit/sec on the 2.4GHz band - the adapter tries to jump up to higher speeds but for transferring a large video file it will eventually settle steady-state at those values. Not a bad performance by any means, I could transfer a 4GB file at about 15.1MB/sec - I am very happy with the results. This little device is breathing new life into an older laptop which was capable of only 802.11g 54Mbit/sec speeds.
One weird issue that I noticed is when using this adapter against a regular dual band 802.11n router TP-Link N900 - again the connection speeds look capped at 150Mbit/sec for each 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, but in practice the 5GHz band works a lot faster than the 2.4GHz band. In this case, I am getting 6.4MB/sec transfer speeds over the 5GHz band and 900K/sec over the 2.4GHz band while the adapter was connected to the same router at the same 150Mbit/sec according to the included monitoring utility.

I purchased the AC1200 Dual Band USB Wireless Adapter model. Fortunately is comes with a USB extension cable that allows the adapter to be moved to get the best reception. The adapter is used on a HTPC and it works great. The adapter is able to stream full 1080p movies without any problem.
During data transfer the adapter transfer rate is a solid 80 Mbps 10 MBps for my system. This is very good for WiFi adapters. Dont be fooled by the outrageous numbers posted by manufacturers; you will never achieve 300 Mbps 37.5 MBps. There are just too many variables that have a negative effect on your WiFi signal, distance from the router, walls between the router and adapter, electrical wiring, other over the air signals, interference from other devices, etc.
Lastly, it is important to know the difference between MBps and Mbps. Cable companies and hardware manufacturers like to give their numbers in Mbps because it is bigger and it sounds like you are getting more. Really, what sounds better 300 Mbps or 37.5 MBps? They are both the same its just that 300 makes a consumer think they are getting more! When doing data transfer with a Windows system the data rates are always shown in MB/s or KB/s.

Got 5Ghz to work on Windows 10 64bit after having it working on 8 previously. Both took different drivers than provided.
For Windows 10, I downloaded the Ralink/Mediatek they make the chips in these drivers ISSetupICS0506151.5.39.126, installed the drivers and utility, and am posting this with the 5ghz connection. This was after many different drivers and many tries to get it working.
UPDATE 1/14/16: Updated with the latest driver from Mediatek and it fixed high speed issues. Before, it reset when the bandwidth was around 120 Mb/s, but now it sustains the speed. Windows 10, driver 5.1.25.0

Review for TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter. Since Amazon seems to lump all TP-Link reviews together figured I would identify which I am reviewing.
So far has been a good buy. Have tried a number of AC1200 adapters and all have had issues, primarily dropping off of the network or not waking up when the computer is put into sleep mode. This is installed in a Windows 8.1 box with a Asus motherboard home built rig. Only problem I have had is on install, Windows 8.1 did not have a driver to install but I had downloaded the latest from TP-Link site and the T4U installed without issue. Did not have to go to the alternate sife for driver as one reviewer did. I did not install their management application as I have found these, in the past, to just be garbage and not worth the install time. One thing of note. This comes with a USB cable but no little docking stationnot sure of the name but USB cable with a little stand on the end to plug the adapter into like so many others do. I used one from one of the failures listed below.
So far has worked flawlessly. No drops, connects at 867Mbps to the 5GHz AC wireless network. Router is a Netgear 7000 Nighthawk running XVortex firmware. Am very pleased with this adapter after the failures I have had. These included a Netgear, Linkys Cisco and Asus. These either would drop connection or not connect when PC was brought out of sleep mode.
If your experience is like mine then you will be happy with this adapter but YMMV.

So, Im not sure what to say about this dongle other than that its a piece of junk. After spending over an hour messing around with it, it apparently wont connect to any secured network. On the occasions when it does say it connects, it doesnt stay connected. It didnt matter whether I used a password or attempted a WPS connection, or whether I attempted to use the new TP-Link AC750 dual band router on either band, or my Buffalo router. However, I could get a connection to my neighbors unsecured Netgear, as well as the unsecured guest mode of hte AC750 if I enabled that. Once I had that enabled, it would act like it wanted to connect to the secured AP, but wouldnt maintain the connection. When it DID show connected however briefly it always showed a status of ad-hoc mode instead of infrastructure! And even when I connected to the AC750 with 100% signal strength, it never would indicate more than standard 802.11n mode. Thus Im not sure that either this or the AC750 are truly providing 802.11ac, since I was waiting on this dongle to test that on the AC750! Since the AC750 and the T4U are the same series from the same brand, if anything was going to work these should.
Beyond that, the software/driver installation was pretty clunky. The autorun on the disk didnt fire on the first PC I tried, and even after installing the software and drivers on the PC, Windows didnt find them and did an internet search followed by asking for the disk. It did finally install the drivers directly from the disk, allowing the utility to find the dongle. The installation added several unidentified programs to the system startup that were flagged by my security utilities. The fact that the manufacturer name was not in these EXEs is disturbing. I tried another PC with a different Windows version, and while the drivers and utility ran fine on both, the resulting behavior of the dongle was the same.
The dongle itself is rather bulky, which will be a problem for most USB ports, since it will block neighboring ports. It does come with a pretty beefy extension cable to help resolve this. However, thats not much better if youre using this on a laptop.
And before someone jumps on a soapbox that I dont know what Im doing, Im co-chair of one of the Wi-Fi Alliance certification program working groups, so I deal with this stuff for a living. If I cant get it to work, it doesnt work.
And beware, Amazon has dumped the reviews of every TP-LINK dongle together on one page, so it looks like this one is pretty good from the stars. Unfortunately if no one is looking closely, they wont realize that all the good reviews are on other products until its too late. Chances are this review will get lost in the clutter. Not sure why Amazon does that, but it does a disservice to their customers.

I can not get the driver to down load. Even when I insert the disk that accompanies this adapter nothing will load and I therefore get a set up failure message when I insert the USB drive. This in turn makes the computer actually run slower. Which is odd.
I tried setting this up on my mothers 2005 HP with Vista, found out it was not Vista compatible, tho - it says that in the instructions. Then I tried to set it up in my 2010 Toshiba with Windows 7, in which it is supposed to be compatible but apparently not so. Moved on to our 2012 HP Pavilion also with Windows 7 still no luck. I realized I am not an IT person, but I figured that by following the instructions which is relatively easy I could get this going no problem.

It simply works. Gives a strong signal from about 100 feet away from router and through three walls.
The included software for the dongle to control the tp link causes your games to minimize constantly. A fix is, when you close the program instead of minimizing choose close or just uninstall the program and use windows this is what i did and I have had no issues so far
